The City of Portland is actively recruiting for the Plumbing Inspector position to create a list of eligible candidates. Plumbing Inspectors enhance the safety and livability of structures by performing field inspections of industrial, commercial, and multifamily residential construction projects for compliance with applicable plumbing codes and regulations. Independent field inspections of new and remodeled plumbing installations are performed to insure compliance with the State of Oregon Plumbing Codes and the City of Portland plumbing regulations.
As a Plumbing Inspector, you will provide excellent customer service, ensure equitable service delivery to both external and internal customers, and uphold the Bureau's customer service standards in a challenging and fast-paced environment. In this role, you work closely with customers to help them understand how codes and other regulations apply to their projects. Typical duties include performing inspections, writing inspection reports, entering inspection results via telephone and computer, maintaining detailed and accurate records, interpreting information from plans and maps, and explaining codes and policy to the public. The work requires knowledge of the relevant codes and regulations, and discretion and judgment in applying them. This position will write detailed inspection reports and take appropriate action. The Plumbing Inspector also assists in field training of other inspectors; and responds to calls to work during emergencies. Plumbing Inspectors are responsible for providing assistance in an equitable manner to diverse customers. Fluency in a second language is desirable, but not required. Additional certifications in Structural and/or Mechanical Inspections are preferred, but not required.
The current vacancy is in the Bureau of Development Services (BDS) Residential Inspections Section. This recruitment may be used to fill additional vacancies in the BDS Commercial Inspections Section.

An Oregon Plumbing Specialty Code Inspector (PI) Certification; and
An Oregon Residential Plumbing Inspector (CAP) Certification.
NOTE: The Oregon Inspector (OIC) Certification is a pre-requisite to obtaining the Oregon Plumbing Specialty Code Inspector (PI) Certification and Oregon Residential Plumbing Inspector (CAP) Certification.
