Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering field such as architectural (AE), mechanical (ME), or electrical engineering (EE)or related field and prefer appropriate professional registration with the State of Texas. Requires at least seven years experience in design, maintenance, operation of building systems or experience in related field with at least four years experience in management or supervision of same.
Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:
Responsible for planning, assigning, and supervising the work of Facilities Planning and Construction. Duties involve planning, interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating major architectural and engineering projects, performing engineering design work, calculating costs, and conducting various facilities studies; and preparing multi-year planning and construction programs.
Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only):
Responsible for, but not limited to the following duties: Plans, develops, coordinates and directs various design and construction projects. Prepares and/or directs the preparation of construction plans, specifications, and estimates. Prepares and/or reviews social, environmental or economic assessments. Prepares requests for qualifications and requests for proposals to acquire project design and/or construction services. Assists in the preparation of annual budgets for Maintenance, Renovation, and Construction projects. Reviews and recommends payments to contractors. Oversees tracking of project costs and is responsible for altering management of potential cost overruns, should such occur. Prepares project cost estimates and/or reviews cost estimates preformed by other Facilities Planning personnel. Compiles five-year Campus Master Plan Update and the Capital Improvement Program. Must have the ability to read, prepare and interpret drawings, specifications, and sketches. Serves as department liaison to the campus Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) Coordinator. Oversees record-keeping systems that permit the measurement of the effectiveness of HUB programs in the planning and construction area. Assists campus HUB Coordinator as necessary in achieving campus HUB program goals. Must be capable of using Microsoft Office software. Other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President for Facilities Management.
Other Specifications/Instructions for the Position:
Must have a driving record acceptable to the University’s insurance carrier. Conducts business with senior campus administrators, members of the Texas State University System office, University departments, off campus government agencies, architectural and engineering firms, contractors, vendors, and suppliers. A Texas Professional Engineer’s license is desirable.
