KL2 Connects has been retained by Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) to recruit its next Vice President, Capital Design & Construction. DART serves Dallas and twelve surrounding cities with bus, light rail, and paratransit services and, in partnership with the Fort Worth Transportation Authority, owns and operates the Trinity Rail Express commuter rail service. Its mission is to build and operate a safe and efficient transportation system that provides mobility, improves the quality of life, and stimulates economic development. Under the direction of DART’s Executive VP of Growth and Regional Development the winning candidate will direct the activities of personnel, consultants, and contractors engaged in design, construction, project management, and dispute resolution associated with major capital projects and programs. This position is responsible for analyzing project delivery engineering, financial, and performance data to effectively manage programs and align. Assigned projects are high profile, have substantial political interaction and public scrutiny, and may include various transportation modes and systems.
This position requires experience leading multiple simultaneous complex projects, and candidates must be capable of independently making decisions on significant engineering/design/construction problems and issues. It requires an accredited Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or related field; a Texas P.E. or architect’s license; eight years of progressively responsible experience in major engineering and construction project management (including experience directing professional staff and/or engineering/construction consultants); demonstrated experience working across all transportation modes with stakeholders, regulatory, and jurisdictional authorities; demonstrated experience with various methods of project delivery (Design Build, Design Bid Build, Construction Management General Contractor and Progressive Design Build); knowledge of budget development/analysis and operational cost factors; and proficiency in Trapeze, Lawson, Ripplestone, Tableau, Word, Excel, and other related software applications. Additional requirements are specified in the Position Description, and an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for select minimums (excluding a HS diploma, GED, licenses, or certifications).
