Building upon a decade of expansion in the United States and beyond, Northeastern University merged with Mills College in July 2022 to have a broader impact across its global campus network. Northeastern University’s Planning, Real Estate and Facilities (PREF) Division now seeks a creative, flexible, and collaborative leader to serve as the Senior Capital Projects Manager in Oakland, CA. This is an exciting opportunity to provide leadership in the planning and construction of various types of projects at a dynamic, top-tier, urban research university with the ambition and resources to grow.
The new Senior Capital Projects Manager will join the University as it continues a more-than-decade-long trajectory of unprecedented growth in student enrollment, faculty, staff, and physical space, along with tremendous advances in academic and research rankings. That impact is powered by Northeastern’s renowned experiential learning model and world-class research enterprise and strengthened by Mills’ legacy in women’s leadership, equity, and social justice. With several hundred Northeastern undergraduates joining hundreds of continuing Mills students, Northeastern is now the only university with comprehensive residential campuses on both U.S. coasts.
Northeastern’s Oakland campus is a 135-acre green oasis with deep connections to a vibrant urban community. The campus features 65 historic and contemporary buildings, many of which are award-winning. These buildings house 47,600 square feet of academic and laboratory space. As part of the City of Oakland, the campus affords students and faculty the opportunity to study, work, and live in one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the U.S.—one with an avant-garde art scene, science and cultural opportunities, excellent cuisine, and a progressive, engaged community.
Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Planning, Real Estate, and Facilities on the Oakland Campus, the Senior Capital Projects Manager will be a self-starter who can help execute the vision for the Oakland Campus. They will be responsible for the management of capital projects, as well as the overall project portfolio, and will be expected to draw upon existing contacts, manage complex consulting agreements for the University, and form new relationships to strategically contribute to the university’s newest residential campus. The Senior Capital Projects Manager will oversee 3-5 external Project Managers (OPMs), as well as several external consultant resources with an annual capital project budget ranging from $30-$80M.
